Mi homenaje a The Police Registrate y elimina la publicidad!   ¿Que es the police? The Police es una banda de rock new wave inglesa cuyo estilo está marcado por el reggae y el jazz. Se formó en 1977 y tocaron oficialmente hasta marzo de 1984 (nunca emitieron un comunicado sobre su disolución). En el momento de su separación, era el grupo más popular y con más ventas del mundo.  Vamos con su historia: Primeros años the police: El trío, además del cantante y bajista Sting (nacido el 2 de octubre de 1951 en Newcastle upon Tyne), estaba compuesto por el baterista Stewart Copeland (nacido el 16 de julio de 1952 en la localidad estadounidense de Alexandría, Virginia) y el guitarrista Henry Padovani, quien pronto sería sustituido por el experimentado Andy Summers (nacido el 31 de diciembre de 1942 en Lancashire), un músico que ya contaba con un largo recorrido en la música rock, pues había estado en bandas como The Animals o Zoot Money. También había tocado con Kevin Ayers o Neil Sedaka. En 1977, tras foguearse en distintas formaciones inglesas de jazz y rock progresivo, el trío dio inicio a su carrera musical en la escena punk con el apoyo de su representante Miles Copeland, el hermano de Stewart. Su debut se produjo con el single “Fall out”, canción compuesta por Stewart que fue editada en el sello independiente IRS. El tema recogió una notable resonancia, hecho que llegó a oídos de los altos directivos de A&M, con la que comenzaron a grabar en 1978. Allí publicaron el sencillo “Roxanne”, tema escrito por Sting, que en su primera edición no consiguió llamar la atención. La canción se incluyó en su primer álbum, “Outlandos D’Amour” (1978), sin duda uno de sus mejores trabajos y el más enérgico e inmediato, en donde sonaban clásicos como el citado “Roxanne”, “So lonely” o “Can’t stand losing you”. Además otras piezas menos conocidas como “Next to you” o “Born in the 50’s” formaban parte de un LP extraordinario. Llegada a la fama: Este brillante inicio de su discografía se confirmaría con discos que copaban las listas de ventas de toda Europa como “Regatta de Blanc” (1979), LP con temas excelentes como “Message in a bottle” o “Walking on the moon”, y “Zenyatta Mondatta” (1980), el álbum que coronó a la banda también en los Estados Unidos (número 5 en en el Billboard) gracias a canciones como “Don’t stand so close to me” o “De do do do, de da da da”. Estos dos últimos discos fueron co-producidos con la banda por Nigel Gray, quien había ocupado puesto de ingeniero de sonido de su debut. Traspasados los años 80, The Police fue abandonado su condición new wave-reggae para centrarse en su vertiente más pop. Así sucede en “Ghost in the machine” (1981), un disco producido por Hugh Padgham que incluye los singles “Spirits in the material world”, “Invisible sun” y “Every little thing she does is magic”. El éxito permanecía invariable en el viejo continente, alcanzando el número 2 en los Estados Unidos. Disolución: Finalmente, las tensiones y egos entre los distintos componentes provocaron la disolución final del trío. Sting inició una carrera en solitario llena de triunfos comerciales en donde había lugar para el pop con influencias jazz, soul o AOR. Copeland tendió, entre otros proyectos, hacia la composición de bandas sonoras. Cuando todavía militaba en The Police editó varios Ep´s bajo el seudónimo Klark Kent, y después de la separación de Police formó parte de conjuntos como Animal Logic o el más reciente Oysterhead, junto al bajista y cantante de Primus, Les Claypool el guitarrista Trey Anasthasio de phish. Colaboró también tocando la batería en algunas piezas del álbum So de Peter Gabriel. Por su parte, Summers colaboró con grupos de rock progresivo y jazz. Reunión A comienzos del 2007 luego de una serie de rumores que sugerían una posible reunión del grupo como conmemoración de los 30 años de su primer single, la banda se reúne para tocar en los Grammys, abriendo la ceremonia al grito de "Somos The Police, y estamos de vuelta" para continuar tocando Roxanne. En los meses siguientes The Police anunció una gira mundial, rememorando los viejos éxitos de la banda. La gira comenzó en Vancouver a finales de mayo, y terminó en Nueva York el 7 de agosto del 2008, después de 150 conciertos, en una de las giras más exitosa del año. Recorrieron Estados Unidos, Europa, México, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Japón, España, Canadá, entre otros países. Presentación en vivo: En general, The Police siempre actuó en vivo como power-trío (guitarra, bajo y batería como instrumentos presentes). Las excepciones fueron las siguientes. En julio de 1977 tocaron como cuarteto, ya que pasaban por la transición entre la llegada del guitarrista Andy Summers y el despido del guitarrista Henry Padovani. En la gira del disco Ghost in the Machine (1981 - 1982), el grupo contrató a una sección de vientos formada por The Chops. Finalmente, para la gira del disco Synchronicity (1983 - 1984), contaron con la participación de tres coristas. Además, en el escenario, contaban con dos sintetizadores: uno para Sting y otro para Andy Summers; pero nunca entró en escena un músico de apoyo. Capítulo aparte son los pocos conciertos, para caridad, que dieron en 1986, ya que no tocaron solos, sino con la participación de otras estrellas, como Bono, de U2. En su regreso, en la nueva gira (2007 - 2008), volvieron al ruedo como siempre, con una alineación pura de power-trío. El único detalle que puede mencionarse es que el baterista Stewart Copeland cambió el micrófono con jirafa por un micrófono de vincha. Si bien tanto el guitarrista Summers como el baterista Copeland son afinados y tienen lindos timbres de voz, nunca fueron un gran apoyo vocal para Sting en vivo. Pero es justo destacar que en estudio sí lo han sido; prueba de ello es el sonido característico de la armonía vocal de The Police que puede apreciarse en sus trabajos, ya que Sting no tenía que grabarse exclusivamente sus propios coros.
